Bigger Than Basketball is a fundraising event dedicated to improving the athletic environment as it relates to mental health. They aspire to create a community within British Columbia that will ensure no athlete ever feels alone or helpless in the face of mental illness or mental health challenges. We’re proud to have supported the event for three years, with this year’s proceeds going towards the UBC T-Birds Mental Health Initiative.
Since 2018, the event has raised over $22,000 for the Canadian Mental Health Association. The event extends far beyond fundraising and into the realm of advocacy. The event mission has always been and continues to be to erase stigma surrounding mental health issues and mental illness in sport, specifically within the basketball community. They wish to ensure that all athletes feel supported, feel welcomed, and feel safe in their lives both on and off the court. Bigger Than Basketball serves as a trail blazer in the basketball community, incorporating over 100+ basketball players from youth to adulthood into a fun, yet powerful two days.
This year’s event was held at UBC for the first time, with proceeds going to the UBC Mental Health Initiative. We’re proud to support Bradley and his team with this inspiring initiative and look forward to watching the event and impact grow in the coming years.
